We are now accepting applications for the 2027 Laura Pulido Research Award.

This $300 award recognizes the best essay in Latinx Geographies published in a peer-reviewed geography journal or book in the previous three years (2024-2026). Any AAG member, publisher, editor, or author of an essay/article may nominate work that was published between 2024-2026, however the nominated authors(s) must be an AAG member at the time of nomination.*

Publishers, editors, and authors may submit nominations electronically at: latinxgeographies@gmail.com. Please put “Laura Pulido Award Nomination” in the subject line. Preference will be given to: (1) publications in conversation with or which honor Laura Pulido’s scholarship in environmental justice, cultural memory, and the intersections of Human Geography and Chicanx Studies, (2) publications authored or co-authored by junior scholars, and (3) articles published in peer-reviewed geography journals.

Nomination Instructions:

Submissions must be one pdf file and include the following:

  1. Brief cover page (author(s) contact information and title of submission) 
  2. Proof of author’s AAG membership
  3. Cover journal/book and copyright page
  4. Table of contents of journal / book (if available)
  5. Journal Article / Book Chapter

-2027 Award Submission (Postmark) Deadline: December 30, 2026

To be considered nominations must:

  • Be published between 2024-2026
  • Publication date of journal articles must be the official publication (not online publication date)

Please Note: If the publication selected for this prize is authored by multiple authors, award recipients will share the $300 monetary prize. 

* For articles/chapters with multiple authors, the leading author(s) must be a current AAG member at the time of nomination. This means the other co-authors are not required to be current AAG members in order for the nomination to be eligible for consideration.
