We are accepting nominations for three Latinx Geographies Specialty Group board positions: Co-chair, Secretary-Treasurer, and Activities Director. The responsibilities for each role are described below. If you would like to run for a position or nominate someone else, please fill out this poll by March 1st, 2026. - LxG Co-Chair (1 opening): Serves a staggered two-year term and are responsible for:
- Coordinating all activities of the specialty group. These include: organizing special sessions and workshops at the AAG meetings, presiding at business meetings, appointing committees, supporting projects that enhance research and education opportunities, creating a closer spirit of cooperation with other specialty groups and organizations interested in collaboration, and furthering the missions and objectives of the specialty group;
- Preparing and submitting an annual report to the AAG Council within three months of the conclusion of the AAG annual meeting. The report should detail specialty group activities for the previous year and goals for the coming year;
- Assuming ad hoc responsibilities and initiatives identified by specialty group membership and leadership; and
- Developing recommendations regarding the mission and goals of the specialty group that may take the form of a specific proposal to be voted on at the annual business meeting.
- LxG Secretary-Treasurer (1 opening): Serves a two-year term and is responsible for:
- Managing and maintaining all specialty group business and financial records;
- Presiding over minutes at business meetings, sending a digital copy of said minutes to the members of the Board and the AAG Central Office within 90 days of any meeting; and
- Working with the Activity Directors to maintain specialty group membership list.
- LxG Activity Director (1-opening): Serves a two-year term and is responsible for:
- Exploring, publicizing and organizing opportunities and events for specialty group members to network and collaborate; and
- Developing a social media presence for the specialty group.
- Exploring, publicizing & organizing opportunities and events for specialty group members to network and collaborate;
- Focus on projects (or activities) created by our LxG community to fulfill ongoing & emerging needs & desires Thus far, we have four focus/activities.(Communications, Pedagogy, Awards, Mentoring & Graduate Student Initiatives);
- Hold virtual meet-ups where members offer mentorship to one another through virtual writing sessions & the sharing of works-in-progress.
- Serve as panel chairs/discussants at the AAG meeting
